Crimson-mantled Woodpecker Colaptes rivolii

  • Order: Piciformes
  • Family: Picidae
  • Polytypic: 5 subspecies
  • Authors: Thomas S. Schulenberg

Very little information. Short (1970) reported a nest in central Peru in August, and surmised (Short 1982) that breeding in central Peru "perhaps mainly [is] from June to November". Fjeldså and Krabbe (1990) suggested that breeding (species wide?) is "possibly mainly Feb-Mar", and also report juveniles from Colombia in January-February. Greeney et al. (2010) found an active nest in Ecuador in October.

The nest is a cavity in a tree (Short 1970), but is not described in any detail.
