Conservation Status

The IUCN Red List status of Coppery-chested Jacamar is rated as Vulnerable (BirdLife International 2012). This species has a restriced geographic and elevational distribution, in a region that is experiencing ongoing deforestation (BirdLife International 2012).

The relative abundance of Coppery-chested Jacamar generally is uncommon to locally fairly common (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a).

Effects of human activity on populations

As is the case for other species that are restricted to forests, Coppery-chested Jacamar is vulnerable to habitat loss; with its restricted elevational and geographic range, Coppery-chested Jacamar is particularly at risk. Ridgely and Greenfield (2001a) suggest, however, that at least in the short tem Coppery-chested Jacamar may benefit from partial deforestation.
