Vocalizations

The vocalizations of the Cayenne Jay are varied. One of the most frequent vocalizations is described as "a loud keep! Yop! or either note [given] separately" (Hilty 2003). Another common vocalization is described as "a rather melodious: 'tjeeeooo' " (Haverschmidt and Mees 1994) or as "a loud, downslurred KEEOOP!" (Hilty 2003). Other vocalizations include "a loud ringing 'choh-choh-choh' " (Ridgely and Tudor 1989) or "ringing kup-kup-kup (sometimes only two notes)" (Hilty 2003) and "a harsh kriit!" (Hilty 2003).
