Carunculated Caracara Phalcoboenus carunculatus

Geographic Variation

No variance recorded.

Related Species

Phalcoboenus previously merged with Caracara. Now considered not a sister genera but more closely related with Milvago and Ibycter. Along with P. megalopterus was considered previously as races of P. albogularis (Global Raptor Information Network, 2016). Shown to not hybradize with P. megalopterus where their ranges overlap in southern Ecuador (Poulson, 1993). There is very low genetic divergence among the four species of the genus Phalcoboenus, with the lowest diversity between P. albogularis and P. megalopterus (Fuschs, 2012).
