Priorities for Future Research

Several aspects of the biology of the Campo Flicker remain unknown. Although the species is widely distributed and common within its range, virtually no information is available about its population demography. Despite the fact that the species is listed as of Least Concern by BirdLife Interrnational, more attention should be given to Campo Flicker populations since the species is probably a keystone species, being the main cavity constructor in many habitats, especially in the Brazilian savanna.
