Brown Tanager Orchesticus abeillei

Priorities for Future Research

Parker et al. (1996) lists the research priority for the Brown Tanager as “high” compared to other Neotropical birds. Sazima (2010) suggests that more research on the natural history and behavior of the Brown Tanager, along with the Buff-fronted Foliage Gleaner and the Chestnut-crowned Becard, would be beneficial to understanding the possible mimic complex. Future research is needed on the species specific reactions of Orchesticus abeillei to forest fragmentation and fragment size decrease (Anjos 2001). Additional genetic data would help confirm the relationship of Orchesticus to Parkerthraustes.
