This species is a comparatively widespread but typically low-density resident across much of central and eastern Amazonia, where it is found from southern Venezuela south to northern Bolivia and southeast Amazonian Brazil, west to southeast Colombia, as well as east to the Guianas. Although it inhabits the edges and clearings in a range of forest types, including terra firme, the Bronzy Jacamar seems to be most numerous in low-stature, sandy-soil campinas, especially north of the Amazon. However, due to the patchy nature of such habitats the species’ overall population must still be comparatively small. The Bronzy Jacamar is reported to have hybridized with the Green-tailed Jacamar (Galbula galbula) in the Guianas.
