Distribution in the Americas

It distributes in both slopes, from southern Sonora and Nuevo Leon (probably in southeastern Coahuila) and in the interior from central Mexico to northern El Salvador and central Honduras.

It is a resident species, common to uncommon in their distribution range (about 530,000 km2).

Inhabits between 600 and 3500 m asl (even lower in winter, in the northwestern Mexico), in humid to semiarid forests, pine-oak forest; also along streams.
