Conservation Status

Within its range, it is noted as uncommon or rare. BirdLife International indicates this species as Least Concern as of 2008. Exceedingly rare now in Ecuador, very rare in Venezuela as well. However, Blue Cotinga is listed as a Red Data book species within Ecuador (Del Hoyo 2004; Kirwan 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

Conversion of lowland forests into pasture within Ecuador and Venezuela has drastically reduced suitable habitat for this species within these countries (Del Hoyo 2004; Kirwan 2012).
