Distribution in the Americas

Colinus nigrogularis is distributed in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. In Mexico is found in the south of the Yucatan Peninsula to the center of Campeche and Quintana Roo center.

Is a resident species, but in mountainous areas can make altitudinal movements after the breeding season. It is considered common to uncommon in Mexico. It has been estimated that the range of occurrence of this species is approximately 110,000 km2, and the overall population has been quantified between 100,000 - 1,000,000 individuals.

It inhabits arid to semiarid brushy woodland, overgrown fields, forest edges, clearings with herbs, pine savannas and crops, and during the summer look areas with standing water. Is found between 0 - 200 m asl.
