Priorities for Future Research

The natural history of Ecuadorian Trogon is almost completely unknown, beyond the most basic information presented here. In part, this paucity of information may be due to the fact that it was recognized as a species only very recently; no doubt it attracted even less attention when it was classified as a subspecies of Black-tailed Trogon (Trogon melanurus). The diet and foraging ecology of Ecuadorian Trogon remain undescribed. Perhaps more important areas of investigation are such topics as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, territoriality and population density of Ecuadorian Trogon.
