Berlepsch's Tinamou Crypturellus berlepschi

  • Order: Tinamiformes
  • Family: Tinamidae
  • Monotypic
  • Authors: Vitor Gomes

The reproductive biology of Berlepsch's Tinamou is almost completely unknown. Specimens in breeding condition were collected in Chocó, Colombia in February (Hilty and Brown 1986). Ridgely and Greenfield (2001a) mention a nest encountered in Ecuador, but do not give a date or describe the nest; the nest site, however, was mentioned as "inside forest (away from any stream)", although local informants reported that this species also regularly breeds "in the borders of mixed-culture plantations". The nest itself presumably is little more than a scrape on the ground, and the eggs are glossy and unmarked.
