Belted Flycatcher often is described as "very rare" and local (Edwards 1998, Land 1970). The IUCN status is currently Near-Threatened due to its restricted range and habitat loss. The global population is estimated to be less than 50,000 individuals, but no thorough surveys have been conducted (BirdLife International 2014).

There is no information related to topics such as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, or population regulation for Belted Flycatcher.
