Diet and Foraging

Beautiful Hummingbird is primarily nectarivorous, but the diet of this species is not well documented. Reported flowering plants visited by Beautiful Hummingbird include Castilleja, Salvia, Erythrina, Agave, Fouquieria formosa, and Euphorbia cymbifera (Scott 1999, Jaimes-Garduño 2008, Hernández-Hernández 2009), as well as Opuntia.

Beautiful Hummingbird also consumes small arthropods (Scott 1999), as do most if not all species of hummingbirds (Remsen et al. 1986).
