Diet and Foraging

There is little information on the diet of Azure-crowned Hummingbird. As is the case with other species of Amazilia, it forages for nectar, including at flowering Inga sp. (Howell and Webb 1995), and "at the red flowers of Psittacanthus mayanus and the bromeliad Aechmea bracteata" (Howell 1972). Presumably also feeds on small arthropods, as do most if not all species of hummingbirds (see Remsen et al. 1983).
