Conservation Status

Amazonian Pygmy-Owl is very widespread; consequently, the IUCN Red List conservation status for this species is assessed as Least Concern (BirdLife International 2012).

The relative abundance of Amazonian Pygmy-Owl, at a continental scale, is rated as uncommon (Parker et al. 1996), although in Peru it is described as locally fairly common (Schulenberg et al. 2010).

Effects of human activity on populations

As is the case for other species that are restricted to forests, Amazonian Pygmy-Owl is vulnerable to habitat loss.
