Distribution in the Americas

It distributes only in northeastern Mexico, central Tamaulipas, eastern San Luis Potosi and northern Veracruz.

It is a resident species, common to frequent in the Atlantic slope. It has been estimated that their distributional range is of a few hundred km2, and the total population is estimated below 10,000 individuals and is declining.

This species is an habitat specialist, lives in coastal swamps, brackish water lagoons and coastal marshes, is found from sea level to 500 m asl.
