Conservation Status

It is considered a Least Concern species globally, but their population trends are unknown. These birds may be declining in some areas due to the destruction of wet meadows, key habitat during migration. The pollution is affecting the species, has been reported some phalaropes ingesting plastic particles floating in the sea. Studies are needed about its ecology, food and reproductive biology, in addition to permanent monitoring of the species that allow develop proper conservation strategies.
